The vanilla buttercream frosting recipe is smooth and spreadable, making it perfect for frosting cupcakes, cakes, and cookies.

It’s rich, sweet, and foolproof. With 4 ingredients and 10 minutes of effort, this vanilla buttercream frosting will be ready to turn any cake, cookie, or cupcake into a special-occasion dessert

How to Make the Perfect Vanilla Buttercream Frosting

  • Cream room temperature butter with a hand mixer, or the paddle attachment of a stand mixer. Room temperature butter will help frosting from being grainy or gritty texture.
  • Gradually beat in powdered sugar until fully incorporated. Beat in vanilla extract.
  • Pour in milk one tablespoon at a time ( a little more, if too thick) and beat for an additional 3-4 minutes.
Substitution: For pure white buttercream frosting, shortening can replace butter.
Too sweet:  A pinch of salt will cut down on the sweetness.

To store: Frosting should be stored in an airtight container and can be frozen for up to 6 weeks.

Food Color:  Standard Food color dyes are great, but if you want vibrant colors! Try a gel-based food color.
